Countering Tobacco Industry Interference in Time of COVID-19 (2020)

The devastating impact of COVID-19 has underscored the fundamental importance of health. With governments looking for solutions to strengthen health systems and public health policies, this is a golden opportunity to urge stricter implementation of the WHO FCTC. However, the tobacco industry has exploited the global health crisis to present themselves as benevolent partners in the fight against COVID-19 thus obscuring the economic and social costs of tobacco. The tobacco control community must act now to call for WHO FCTC implementation, counter the tobacco industry’s tactics and save millions of lives.
