VIENTIANE, 29 October 2018 - A joint meeting between the Government of the Lao PeopleÔÇÖs Democratic Republic (LAO PDR) and the World Health Organization (WHO) promoted improved coordination and training of national Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) deployed to disasters, outbreaks, and other emergencies in the country.  

The Vice Minister of Health of Laos PDR, Dr Phouthone Muongpak, opened the meeting,  which took place on Monday, 29 October 2018, at the Crowne Plaza Vientiane. 

An Emergency Medical Team Introductory Workshop was held in Yerevan, Armenia from 30 October to 1 November 2018 for over 20 participants from the Ministry of Health, including the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and Ministry of Emergency Situations.

26th September, 2018 An Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Country Preparedness Workshop commenced today at Tanoa International Dateline Hotel aimed in providing an opportunity for key country health and emergency servicesÔÇÖ leaders to engage collectively and further strengthen the national capacity to respond to disaster emergencies and outbreaks including events that require the international emergencies teams.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) in collaboration with the World Health Organization are conducting the three-daysÔÇÖ workshop.

New Delhi, 6 September 2018: The World Health Organization today called upon countries in its South-East Asia Region to strengthen emergency medical teams, to be better prepared to respond to public health emergencies.

Emergency medical teams provide urgent medical and surgical care in emergencies characterized by a surge in trauma or disease. Rehabilitation has historically not been included in the acute phase of care, as teams have either not perceived it as their responsibility or have relied on external providers, including local services and international organizations, to provide services.

Geneva, 25 May 2018ÔÇöThis month the WHO Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) Secretariat classified the first Type 3 team in AsiaÔÇöthe China International Emergency Medical Team (Sichuan), adding to the global number of self-sufficient teams ready to be deployed to health emergencies should the need arise.

The group will become part of the international list of emergency medical teams that can be deployed quickly when requested by countries affected by disasters or emergencies

Washington, DC, September 26, 2017 (PAHO/WHO) - The emergency medical team of the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador is the second in the Americas region to receive verification from the World Health Organization (WHO), as part of its Emergency Medical Team (EMT) initiative. 

On 8 November 2013, the world watched as the strongest typhoon ever seen pummelled through the Philippines, taking over seven thousand lives and affecting an estimated sixteen million people in the archipelagic country.

This week the WHO Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) Secretariat held a ceremony to recognize the international classification of the New Zealand Medical Assistant Team (NZMAT)ÔÇöadding to the global number of self-sufficient teams ready to be deployed to health emergencies should the need arise.
