Welcome to the first city from Greece to join the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities – the Municipality of Alexandroupolis. Καλώς ήρθατε!

Recognizing the unique opportunities and challenges of remote communities in responding to the needs of older persons, the Municipality of Alexandroupolis is committed to integrating characteristics of the Greek Thracian culture within its age-friendly practices – such as skills training groups and home meal delivery services to combat social isolation.

We look forward to Alexandroupolis’ leadership in Greece as its first age-friendly city!

Nizwa and Al Misfah Village – Oman's first communities to join the Global Network

Two communities from Oman have now joined the Global Network as the first members from the country – Nizwa and Al Misfah Village!

Nizwa, with a population of more than 150,000 people, builds on the National Home Care Programme for older persons to provide diverse support programmes ranging from opportunities for social participation to financial support.

Al Misfah Village, with approximately 600 inhabitants, has also implemented a comprehensive set of policies, programmes, and services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for older adults, supporting their independence, participation, and dignity.

These examples from Oman show that, no matter how big or small, every city or community can benefit from becoming more age-friendly. We look forward to seeing how Nizwa and Al Misfah Village inspire many others to embark on their age-friendly journeys!
