view | Completed | Essential service package updated to take into account the life-course | Orient district teams on EHSP , The Lesotho health sector has undertaken a significant review and update of its comprehensive health service package, aligning it with the Primary Health Care (PHC) approach to advance toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals. This updated package prioritizes equitable access to essential health services, integrating preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative care to address the health needs of the population comprehensively. Emphasis has been placed on strengthening service delivery at the community and district levels, ensuring that the most vulnerable populations are reached. Additionally, the package incorporates interventions targeting maternal and child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and emergency care, while promoting multisectoral collaboration to address the social determinants of health. This effort is expected to enhance the quality, accessibility, and efficiency of health services, contributing to improved health outcomes across the country. |

National Health Accounts institutionalised | National Health Accounts institutionalised , Lesotho institutionalized the National Health Accounts (NHA) process using the WHO tool, with key stakeholders including USAID and the World Bank. Medicine regulation and surveillance strengthened | Develop training package for Pharmaco vigilance committees , In 2023, Lesotho enacted the Medicines and Medical Devices Control Authority Act, establishing a regulatory framework to ensure the safety and quality of medical products. WHO, USAID, and other stakeholders supported the operationalization of the Medicines and Medical Devices Regulatory Authority by developing guidelines, training staff, and establishing quality monitoring systems. This initiative aims to protect public health by ensuring access to safe and effective medicines and devices. |

CRVS systems strengthened | Revise and update tools used for notification and reporting on vital events (births and deaths)(certificates and disease classification , WHO and UNICEF jointly supported the government of Lesotho in strengthening its Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system. The support included training health workers on the registration and reporting of vital events, mortality, and causes of death, with a focus on introducing ICD-11 to standardize cause-of-death classifications. The training also incorporated the use of verbal autopsy methods to capture information on deaths occurring outside health facilities. These efforts aimed to enhance the accuracy, timeliness, and comprehensiveness of CRVS data, ensuring its effective use for planning, monitoring, and decision-making to improve health outcomes and governance. |
