New WHO Collaborative Centre for IHR - Points of Entry in Greece (University of Thessaly)

In February 2014, WHO has designated the University of Thessaly (UTH) as a WHO collaboration centre in order to have their support in training activities related to ship inspections and management of public health events at points of entry by helping WHO in the establishment and maintenance of a roster of experts-trainers. The UTH will also assist WHO in training activities related to ship sanitation and event management on ships and at points of entry (ports)/ international travel and transport.
The expected benefits for this collaboration are:

Private yacht

In Ukraine for private yachts in obedience to our national normative reasons a ship sanitary sertificate is not required, but it is permitted to get this document on the reguest of ship owner, because yachts can accomplish international voyages.

New Look PAGNet

Dear PAGNet members,

I see from the new look network that there are now 317 members from a wide range of countries. Please can I encourage you all to actively participate in discussions that are parts of your areas of interest to help us all get the most out of the network?

SSCs for yachts

A question has been raised, should yachts carry a valid SSC?

In the UK, we have private yachts crossing to and from Europe which fall into the definition of a ship on an international voyage. The approach we take in the UK is not to require a SSC as the risk is low, however if the yacht comes from an infected area then the situation may be diffent and we would review this.

Large training yachts would be expected to carry a valid SSC, along with yachts with professional crew.

Interested in hearing how other Countries approch this.
