It was the unanimous view of International Health Regulations Emergency Committee Regarding the 2014 Ebola Outbreak in West Africa that the conditions for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) have been met.
On 6 August, WHO is convening an Emergency Committee of international experts to review the outbreak and advise the Director-General, in accordance with the International Health Regulations, whether the Ebola virus disease outbreak constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Experts will receive an epidemiological briefing and will determine whether the criteria for a PHEIC have been met. If the Emergency Committee agrees that this is a PHEIC, they will then advise the Director-General on temporary recommendations.

There is an active discussion about action to take for vessels with SSCs issued from non authorised ports. However, as an alert to everyone, there is a new list published (23 July 2014) that can be found at http://www.who.int/ihr/ports_airports/ihr_authorized_ports_list.pdf?ua=1
If anyone can see any obvious additions or deletions, please post them under this discussion.

Good Morning,
I'm Mar Faraco, from Spain. My question is about sanitary certificates (SSCs) in areas far from the ports (anchorage).
Do you perform inpections for routine issuance of certificates in areas far from your ports (anchorage)?. I mean "x" miles from coast, arriving by boat and boarding the ship by a flexible hanging ladder (Jacob's ladder)
Best regards
Mar

Dear all
More and more we see that cargovessels have a water test kit on board. Instead of showing a proper potable water analysis made by an authorized laboratoy the captains shows the water test kit and a booklet with test results.
Often these test kits are rather cheap with only coloured strips.
My question: Can we accept these water test kits as a reliable analysis?
Question 2: which parameters should be analyzed?
In Belgium ¨we let the samples tested on total plate count, colliformen, e colli, enteroccoen, conductivity, pH

Dear Martin and dear members!
Question on "authorized ports"
WHO website has a list of ports where the ship can be inspected for health document (IHR List of Authorized Ports) according to the International Health Regulations (2005).
How to deal with SSCEC issued an unauthorized port?
