Safety at ports and on vessels

Dear Colleagues,

For all of us working at, or visiting ports for inspections of vessels, I am sure that we all appreciate that they are risky places. There are a variety of different dangers that we may face and I thought that we could start a discussion about sharing various pieces of advice relating to possible hazards to be aware of and unsafe practices to avoid. Specifically, I thought that we could use this to highlight issues that we may face but are not necessarily part of what we are looking to control.

What happens to the structure of a container ship at sea?

Just for interest and by way of something a little lighter to ease us into the New Year you may find this video of a container ship at sea interesting. This video, posted on YouTube, illustrates the pressures that are exerted upon vessels when at sea and what happens to the structure of the vessel.
