WHO International Health Regulations activity report is released recently. The report covers the workings of the revised IHR framework, which covers not only infectious and foodborne diseases but also risks that can arise from chemical, nuclear and radiological events.

Health Canada has recently developed draft 2011 Inspection Guidelines for Food and Sanitation Onboard Aircraft (attached). These guidelines draw on recognized best practices from national and international standards including the WHO Guide to Hygiene and Sanitation in Aviation. They will form the basis for the development of an inspection and audit program with air carriers in Canada.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Cooperative Arrangement for the Prevention of Spread of Communicable Disease Through Air Travel (CAPSCA) held the 2nd Global Coordination Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, from 10 to 12 October 2011. In my country, these inspections are conducted by a team including hygiene technicians and nurses. the teams are supervised by a medical doctor who is, in general, the head of unit.
