Updated WHO advice for international traffic in relation to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV

In the fast moving situation involving the Novel Coronavirus 2019-n-CoV, WHO further updated it's travel advice on 27 January 2020.

It can be found at https://www.who.int/ith/2020-27-01-outbreak-of-Pneumonia-caused-by-new-coronavirus/en/ 

Appropriate enhanced surveillance leading to a greater chance of early detection is encouraged at Points of Entry (especially at airports) and further detail is given in the travel advice.

Statement on the meeting of the International Health Regulations (2005) Emergency Committee regarding the outbreak of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

The meeting of the Emergency Committee convened by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005) regarding the outbreak of novel coronavirus 2019 in the People’s Republic of China, with exportations currently reported in the Republic of Korea, Japan, Thailand and Singapore, took place on Wednesday, 22 January 2020, from 12:00 to 16:30 Geneva time (CEST) and on Thursday, 23 January 2020, from 12:00 to 15:10.

2019-n-CoV General Discussion

Hello Colleagues,

Media coverage in the UK of this new Coronavirus seems to have stepped up considerably. Obviously, we await confirmation from the Emergency Committee of WHO as to whether it will be declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) or not and we may hear today about that.

Mysterious Pneumonia in China

Dear colleagues,

The authorities in Wuhan, central China, said 44 people had been admitted to hospital with an unidentified virus. Eleven of them were in a serious condition, while a further 121 people who had been in close contact with the infected patients had been placed under medical observation. No deaths have been reported.

Wuhan Municipal Health Commission said that the origin of the viral pneumonia outbreak remained unknown.

Eastern Equine Virus - Vector Borne Disease

Dear Colleagues,

WHO EMRO office sent me a link to this vector borne disease which I have to confess I hadn't heard of before. Whilst mainly affecting horses, it is capable of being transmitted to humans via infected mosquitoes. Whilst currently rare, it is seeing an increase in Florida as the attached news report explains:
