Dear All,
The sudden rise of Zika Virus and associated prominence in the worlds media has seen it declared by WHO as the 4th Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The statement can be found at http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/statements/2016/1st-emergency-committee-zika/en/
Of particular interest to me is the statement that "there should be no restrictions on travel or trade with countries, areas and/or territories with Zika Virus transmission."

It goes without saying that it has put a huge strain on the health system in some countries and has challenged some others. Even the report of the first meeting of the review committee on the role of the IHR in the Ebola outbreak and response (Geneva, 24-25 August 2015) underlines that “The Ebola outbreak offers the best chance for transforming the global response to health emergencies”.
