The Global Nutrition Policy Review 2016–2017 is the report of the second comprehensive analysis of nutrition-related policy environment, coordination mechanisms, available capacities and actions being taken in 176 Member States (91%) and one area which responded to the survey carried out between July 2016 and December 2017.
All food products are eligible to bear a nutrition or health claim. Criteria for determining eligibility to bear nutrition or health claims: must meet specific nutrition criteria. Follows the upper level conditions specified in the Codex guidelines for making claims that product is ""low"" in or ""free"" from energy, total fat, saturated fatty acids, cholesterol, sugars and sodium. Follows the lower level conditions specified in the Codex guidelines for making claims that product is a ""source"" of or ""high"" in protein, vitamins and minerals and dietary fibre. There must be a method to quantify the nutritional component/element that is the foundation of the declaration. Nutrition or health claims are not permitted for food for children under 3 years of age and alcoholic beverages.
