Ⅶ Goals and Objectives

The goal of the successor MTPPAN, 1994-2004 is to improve the nutrition status of Filipinos. Specifically, it aims to:

a)    Reduce the prevalence of protein-energy malnutrition among children, chronic energy deficiency (CED) among adults, and micronutrient deficiencies;

b)    Reduce the prevalence of overweight; and

c)     Prevent increase in the prevalence of diet-related degenerative diseases.

 While the previous MTPPAN, 1993-1998 addressed PEM and micronutrient deficiencies among children, pregnant and lactating women, the successor MTPPAN, 1999-2004 shall also address CED among adults as well as the emerging problems of overweight and diet-related degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, diabetes mellitus and cancers. In addition to children and pregnant and lactating women, the Plan shall also cater to the nutritional needs of other affected population groups namely adolescents, adults and older persons.
