GOAL
The National Nutrition Policy aims to achieve and maintain the nutritional well-being of Malaysians to enable them to contribute effectively towards nation building, in line with Vision 2020.
OBJECTIVES
The policy has three objectives. They are:
i. To enhance and maintain nutritional well-being for all.
ii. To ensure household food security for all.
iii. To strengthen inter and intra sectoral linkages in the development and implementation of all nutrition and related activities in the country.
STRATEGIES
TThe following strategies will be adopted towards attainment of the policy objectives:
i. Incorporating nutritional objectives, considerations and components into national developmental policies and programmes.
ii. Ensuring continuous access by all people to adequate, nutritious, safe and quality foods, especially to the socio-economically deprived.
iii. Ensuring all people have access to nutrition information and education as well as resources and opportunities to make informed decisions on healthy food choices. iv. Preventing and controlling nutritional deficiencies and excesses as well as diet-related non-communicable chronic diseases.
v. Improving care for the nutritionally vulnerable groups.
vi. Promoting optimal infant and young child feeding practices.
vii. Promoting healthy eating and active living for all.
viii. Supporting efforts to protect consumers through improved food quality and safety.
ix. Ensuring that nutrition and dietetics are practised by trained professionals.
x. Strengthening institutional capacity in nutrition activities.
xi. Continuous assessment and monitoring of the nutrition situation in the country.
