The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under Food Safety and Standards, 2006 which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food related issues in various Ministries and Departments. FSSAI has been created for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
Enforcement of FSS Act, 2006: Responsibility of ensuring compliance of FSS Act, 2006 rules and regulations made thereunder by the FBO’s. Enforcement is undertaken on the basis of surveillance, monitoring, inspection and random sampling of food products carried out by the Officials of Food Safety Departments. The enforcement is primarily undertaken by all Food Safety Commissioners of State/UT along with Designated Officers and Food Safety Officers.
Order dated 24th Aug. 2017 related to Compliance to the Notification dated 04th Aug. 2015 revising maximum limit of trans fatty acids to be not more than 5% in Interesterified Vegetable Fat/Oil, Margarine and Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil. (Uploaded on: 31.08.2017).
