2.1 Aim

It is the aim of this guideline and strategic plan to serve as the foundation for all IYCF activities across the country and to be used as a planning tool to increase awareness and attention towards the challenges Sierra Leone faces

2.2 Goal

The goal is to improve the health and nutritional status, and subsequent growth and development, of infants and young children in Sierra Leone, through optimal feeding practices

2.3 Overall Objective

2.3.1        To protect, promote and support optimal infant and young child feeding practices from birth until 24 months

2.3.2        To promote optimal maternal nutrition during pregnancy and lactation 

2.3.3        To adequately address the issues of feeding in exceptionally difficult or emergency circumstances and provide solutions in these situations

2.3.4        To create an enabling and supportive environment for mothers, families, and other caregivers in making an informed choices about optimal                           feeding practices for infant and young children

2.3.5        To strategize on involving communities in behaviour change communication initiatives for improved infant and young child feeding practices

2.3.6        To foster coordination and identify institutional arrangements among government, local and international organisations and other stakeholders in                  promotion of optimal infant and young child feeding practices
