IOGT International welcomes the updated ICD-11. We strongly support the inclusion of gaming and online gambling disorder into the 11th edition of the international classification of disease. And we note the wide-ranging support for the inclusion of gaming and online gambling disorder into ICD-11 by national and international professional organizations working in the field of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions.
The 116 Member Organizations of IOGT International work on a daily basis in communities worldwide to prevent addiction and to help anybody struggling with addiction to become healthy again. In the communities we serve, we can clearly see that gaming and online gambling disorders have emerged as serious concerns of families, schools, workplaces and communities. The public health experts, psychologists and psychiatrists we are working with on the ground are facing increased demand for help to address gaming and online gambling disorders.
The inclusion of these conditions into ICD-11 based on rigorous scientific analysis, is very timely and will allow for better and more evidence-based responses to these disorders, fostering Human Rights-based prevention and treatment and hopefully better support to all people in need.
