Agenda Item:
- Global action on patient safety

ISQua, the International Society for Quality in Health Care, is a member-based, not-for-profit organisation which has been working to improve the quality and safety of health care worldwide for over 30 years.

ISQua is committed to the Patient Safety movement, & the desire to place patient safety at the core of health care delivery.

ISQua believes that safe, high-quality universal health care is a right for all people worldwide. ISQua supports the global action on patient safety & is committed to actively working with the WHO to support the implementation of the global action on patient safety.

ISQua supports external evaluation organisations around the world who develop health and social care service standards. In this role, ISQua promotes the development of patient safety standards, patient safety focused assessment methodologies & improvement initiatives with such organisations.

ISQua actively supports WHO programmes such as Universal Health Coverage, Quality Policy Development & the Medication Safety Challenge.

Patient Safety must be central to all initiatives to improve care. This requires placing people in control of their healthcare, enabling healthcare providers with the skills & knowledge & equipment to deliver safe care. This transformation requires a culture that facilitates transparency & openness.

Through our Emerging Leader Programme, ISQua supports the development of capacity in quality & patient safety in low & lower-middle income countries.

Our Lucian Leape Patient Safety Fellowship for clinicians provides them with an opportunity for specific training in patient safety with WHO.

ISQua supports the WHO affirmation of global action on Patient Safety by improving systems, measuring & learning, educating for safety & developing a worldwide social movement for Zero Harm.
