International Planned Parenthood Federation
Thank you for giving the International Planned Parenthood Federation the opportunity to address the Executive Board.
We welcome the report and draft road map for access to medicines vaccines and health products and applaud the WHO-led consultative process that resulted in broadening the scope of the draft road map to include access to medicines, vaccines and other health products.
We commend WHO for providing strong leadership to ensure access to safe, quality and affordable medicines, vaccines and health products. The draft of the road map recognizes the key challenges that middle- and low-income countries face in ensuring access to medicines, vaccines and health products and provides a clear structure for addressing these.
We note with concern however, that sexual and reproductive health (SRH) products are rarely mentioned in the report and in the road map. Access to medicines, vaccines and other health products must include essential SRH products, such as contraceptives, maternal health and other SRH health products which are key to the Global Strategy for Women’s, children’s and Adolescent’s Health, to attaining SDG 3 and 5, and to achieving universal health care.
As a leader in SRHR, IPPF appreciates the opportunity and commits to continue collaboration with WHO and other international partners, civil society and the private sector in the implementation of the road map.
