About licensing apps through your portal

Add-on apps can be purchased for your ArcGIS Enterprise organization separately from the app bundles. These add-on apps will be included in your portal license file.

The following sections describe the add-on apps for which you can provision licenses through your portal.

ArcGIS Pro

The ArcGIS Pro application is part of ArcGIS Desktop, which has three levels—Desktop Basic, Desktop Standard, and Desktop Advanced—with each level providing additional functionality. Only ArcGIS Pro uses licensing through the organization. Other ArcGIS Desktop applications—ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGlobe, and ArcScene—use the local ArcGIS Administrator application to set levels and extensions.

You can assign a member a license level and enable access to optional extensions that provide specialized tools as well. For a member to use an extension, the member needs both a level and a license for the specific extension product.

When the member to whom you have assigned a license starts ArcGIS Pro and signs in, the application runs with the level and any extensions you specified. However, if you have not specified licensing for a particular member, ArcGIS Pro will not run when that member attempts to sign in. You can reassign licenses as often as necessary, and the resulting changes take effect promptly in ArcGIS Pro. If you completely revoke the license while the member is working in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Pro displays notifications that the software is not authorized and starts the process of closing automatically. After a grace period ends, the member is prompted to save any work and is no longer able to use ArcGIS Pro.

In ArcGIS Pro, a member can check out a license to authorize ArcGIS Pro for use in a disconnected environment. A red box displays next to the member's name when the license is checked out. When a license is checked out, you cannot make any changes or revoke the license. If you select multiple members and at least one member is running ArcGIS Pro in disconnected mode, you cannot configure licenses for any of the selected members.

For organizations requiring more control over offline usage of ArcGIS Pro, an administrator or a member with licensing privileges can prevent all ArcGIS Pro licenses in the organization from being taken offline.

If the device using the checked out license is lost or destroyed, the member will be unable to check out a new license or use ArcGIS Pro in a connected environment. In this case, you'll need to release the checked out license using the ArcGIS Portal Directory. This frees the outstanding license and allows the member to check out a new license or use ArcGIS Pro in a connected environment.

In a connected environment, you can remotely terminate an ArcGIS Pro session. For example, a member is signed in and has ArcGIS Pro actively running on three machines simultaneously (the maximum allowed) but has left the office and now needs to use ArcGIS Pro in the field. Terminating a session allows the member to sign in and start ArcGIS Pro. In addition, if ArcGIS Pro closed in an unexpected manner, you can terminate the session to quickly free the license.

AppStudio for ArcGIS

AppStudio for ArcGIS allows you to convert maps into consumer-friendly, cross-platform mobile apps that can be shared with the public through popular app stores or securely through your enterprise. It is available in two levels, Basic and Standard, which are described as follows:

  • AppStudio for ArcGIS Basic allows you to create apps through configurable app templates included with AppStudio for ArcGIS and publish the apps in app stores. All members of your organization can access AppStudio for ArcGIS Basic from appstudio.arcgis.com.
  • AppStudio for ArcGIS Standard gives you additional capabilities to build your own native apps and distribute them within your enterprise. Each member needs a license to run AppStudio for ArcGIS Standard. Additional functionality that comes with Standard is available in the AppStudio for ArcGIS Desktop Edition, which can be downloaded from http://doc.arcgis.com/en/appstudio/download/. Standard functionality is locked in AppStudio for ArcGIS Desktop Edition unless the ArcGIS account has been configured with an AppStudio for ArcGIS Standard license and the member is signed in with that account.

ArcGIS Business Analyst web app

ArcGIS Business Analyst web app enables commercial Realtors, retailers, economic development agencies, and others to evaluate markets for expansion, consolidation, or investment.

Each portal member needs a license to use the ArcGIS Business Analyst web app. Follow the instructions in Manage licenses to view license details, manage licenses for one member, or manage licenses for multiple members.

GeoPlanner for ArcGIS

GeoPlanner for ArcGIS allows you to collaborate with other members of your portal organization on land-based planning and designs.

Each portal member needs a license to use GeoPlanner. Follow the instructions in Manage licenses to view license details, manage licenses for one member, or manage licenses for multiple members.

Insights for ArcGIS

Insights for ArcGIS is an app you access through your portal that allows you to perform iterative and exploratory data analysis on ArcGIS web services, Excel spreadsheets, and data stored in databases.

Each portal member needs a license to use Insights. Follow the instructions in Manage licenses to view license details, manage licenses for one member, or manage licenses for multiple members.

Navigator for ArcGIS

Navigator for ArcGIS gets your mobile workers where they need to be, using provided maps, your own data, or both, while disconnected.

To use Navigator, a licensed subscription is needed and must be managed by a portal administrator. All portal members can download and install Navigator from their device’s native marketplace, for example, iTunes. However, the app will not function unless the member account has been configured with a license and the member is signed in. A Navigator subscription allows a user to open the app and access navigation content. In Navigator, each member can access and download map packages for their geographic region.

The first time a licensed member signs in to Navigator, they must be connected to their licensing portal. After that, they can download mobile map packages, go offline, and use Navigator offline. If they sign out of Navigator, they must connect to the licensing portal to sign back in.

Drone2Map for ArcGIS

Drone2Map for ArcGIS lets you visualize and analyze geolocated images you collect with a drone to help you inspect areas from the air and monitor changes. 2D and 3D maps you create with Drone2Map can be shared to Portal for ArcGIS.

Each portal member needs a license to run Drone2Map.
