WHO is partnering with interested global acute care clinical trials networks, hospitals, organizations and other interested investigators to form the WHO Global O2ptimization of respiratory support collaboration. The collaboration will study the optimal approaches to delivering oxygen and providing respiratory support for patients with severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) and hypoxaemic respiratory failure across the globe.

You can learn more about the collaboration and express your interest in joining, if you have not done so yet, here.

The collaboration has developed the following principles of research prioritization:

  1. Burden of illness.  Interventions that are applicable to the largest number of patients.
  2. Impact of change. Questions that have the greatest potential to improve patient outcomes.
  3. Availability of interventions. Interventions will be available to most or all patients around the world.
  4. Simplicity. Interventions that are easy to implement.
  5. Cost. Interventions that are less expensive to implement.
  6. Engagement of LMIC partners. Questions relevant to LMIC settings.
  7. Support of patients, clinicians, and stakeholders.
  8. Opportunity for large collaboration. Opportunity for international collaboration and for the engagement of multiple networks and recruiting sites.

This survey seeks to prioritize questions for the collaboration to address. We are committed to maintaining transparency and inclusivity throughout the process, promoting global engagement and ensuring those submitting research questions are given the opportunity to participate in future discussions.

The WHO Research Ethics Review Committee (ERC) has waived the requirement for an ethics review for this survey, as all collected data, including names and e-mail addresses, will be used exclusively for the purposes of this research collaboration.

Please fill in the below questions based on your opinion of the research prioritization for this project. Your participation in the survey implies your consent to include your responses.
