T\u0101maki Makaurau Auckland held it’s third Age Friendly Auckland Symposium in November 2024 with the theme of Creating an inclusive, resilient city. Attendees included older people, aging sector organisations, local and central government and academia.
\nProfessor Edwina Pio shared her research, “Belonging as an aging Asian”, there was a workshop about disaster preparation, and a panel discussion about the elder abuse prevention and support services available in our city. There was also an inspiring discussion about the benefits of creative aging led by Susan Jordan. The event included a welcome by elders from Ng\u0101ti Whatua \u014cr\u0101kei the indigenous people of T\u0101maki Makaurau Auckland, as well as performances from the South Asian community, and elders from the Tongan Community in Auckland.
