They are the places where we spend most of our time \u2013 up to 80% of our days and nights \u2013 when we reach 80 years of age. They are our familiar surroundings,\u00a0intimately tied to our personal history\u00a0and identity; the familiar surroundings\u00a0where we want to keep living for as\u00a0long as we possibly can. Our homes\u00a0help us to be independent and in\u00a0control of our lives; support us to\u00a0remain active and healthy; keep us\u00a0socially connected and engaged with\u00a0our environment and community; and\u00a0evolve with us as our lifestyle choices\u00a0and needs change with the passing of the years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 4\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>If our homes do just that across the life course we consider them to be\u00a0<strong>age-friendly<\/strong>. Age- friendly housing is therefore relevant for all citizens and has a tremendous influence on our health and wellbeing, our social interactions and our capacity to participate in community life.
