EMT Call for Expressions of Interest: Ukraine

26 February 2022

On 24 February, starting in the early morning and continuing throughout the day Ukraine saw an unprecedented deterioration of the security situation across the country, beyond the previous conflict-affected areas in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. Currently the conflict has affected at least 10 oblasts and all major cities in the country. The World Health Organization (WHO) is deeply concerned for the health of the people of Ukraine in the escalating crisis. Humanitarian health support is expected to rise following further needs assessments.

The EMT Secretariat and the WHO Regional Office for Europe is looking to identify International  medical surge available to stand by for potential requests of support from Ukraine and neighbouring countries. Additionally,  technical assistance with significant experience in complex emergencies is anticipated in the form of individual experts identified from the EMT network.

All teams interested in deploying should email their expressions of interest, indicating their availability and capacities, to the EMT Secretariat (emteams@who.int) with a cc to the EMT Regional Focal Point (storozhenkoo@who.int) and EMT Network Leader (saliof@who.int) as soon as possible.

Depending on their capabilities and areas of deployment, teams are expected to be able to comply with the EMT minimum standards or guided by the document for medical teams responding to health emergencies  in armed conflict and other insecure environments.

In addition to the above information, if any of your teams or experts have deployed to support this response, please notify the Secretariat if possible in order to coordinate all our efforts to best support this response.

We thank you in advance for your assistance.
